Jennifer invited us to visit Children's Fairyland around Lake Merrit in Oakland. We learned from Jennifer and their websites that this was one of America's original "kiddielands" that served as inspiration for Walt Disney who created the Magic Kingdom in 1955! Many of the rides and kiddie exhibits are a bit retro in a quaint kind of way. The Japanese Tea Garden, a gift from the Fukuoka Hakata Lions Club was a welcome surprise! From my JET Program(me) days, I know that Fukuoka City and Oakland, CA are sister cities. Next time, we'll get a group shot of all of us (Jennifer, Jim and Cami + Murali, Haruka, Naina)!
