We took a 5 day trip to Darjeeling, in the northern part of West Bengal in the Himalayas. We got up super early to see the sunrise on Kanchenjunga, the 3rd highest peak in the world!! The sunlight projected beautifully onto the majestic mountain landscape. These images are from Tiger Hill.

This region borders Nepal, Sikkim, Bhutan and Bangladesh. There were lots of Tibetan influences in the area.
Can you smell the yak butter candles?

At the Tibetan Refuge Self Help Center, we saw women spinning yak wool for carpets, Ghandi style. We learned how the Dalai Lama escaped from Lhasa, Tibet via Darjeeling to Dharmsala.
At the Himalayan Zoo, we saw a bunch of regional animals, including the black bear and red panda!
